Technical meeting between specialists of JAEA, MUS and NNC RK
From 13 to 15 April 2026, the seventh technical meeting between specialists of JAEA, MUS and NNC RK was held in Kurchatov.
The meeting was dedicated to the preparation of documentation for a new contract under the EAGLE-4 experimental program, which is a continuation of long-term research supporting the design of the Generation IV JSFR reactor and provides for the conduct of both in-pile and out-of-pile experiments at the facilities of NNC RK.
The main agenda of the technical meeting included discussion and alignment of the wording of the final draft of the Contract, the Memorandum of Cooperation, and the Implementing Agreement in terms of legal and financial and economic aspects; confirmation of the requirements of the Technical Specification; presentation of results and justification of financial estimates; and identification and description of potential risks associated with the procurement of necessary materials and equipment.
The JAEA delegation was represented by technical specialists acting as contracting parties and research coordinators, as well as by members of the JAEA International Affairs Division directly involved in the project.
Overall, the meeting was conducted at a high technical level. The JAEA partners provided positive feedback regarding the effectiveness of discussions on the full range of issues and contractual obligations. The parties confirmed a shared understanding of the challenges related to contract implementation, timelines, and the strict requirements for adherence to the experimental schedule.
As a result of the meeting, minutes were issued, setting out agreed follow-up actions and commitments. The primary task of the joint JAEA-NNC RK team in the near term is the timely preparation of a full package of documents for signature by the heads of the organizations, scheduled for June-July 2026.
