- Operation of radioactive waste storages
- Low-level radioactive waste storage facilities
- Spent nuclear fuel storage facilities
- High-level radioactive waste storage facilities
- Medium-level radioactive waste storage facilities
- Nuclear installation operation
- Research nuclear (atomic) reactors
- Installations for manufacture of nuclear fuel and the components
- Operation of radioactive waste storages
In the Institute of Atomic Energy there are long-term storages for solid radioactive wastes and IRS, which include the following constructions and equipment:
- RW long-term storage for SRW and IRS;
- RW interim storage for IRS protective casings;
- specially equipped vehicles for RW transportation;
- radiation-protection cell for IRS identification and repackaging;
- gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 125 tons for transport and technological operations with RW packages.
Work experience:
- storage of IGR reactor spent nuclear fuel (about 50 years);
- storage of BN-350 reactor spent nuclear fuel (since late 2010);
- IRS receiving for storage from the Shymkentfosfor Plant;
- placement of RW from the former arsenal of the Military Unit 65476 (Tokrau village, Karaganda region) for long-term storage;
- placement of RW from the former Irtysh Chemical and Metallurgical Plant in the Pervomaisky village of the East Kazakhstan region for long-term storage;
- placement of nuclear waste (contaminated soil) from the former Semipalatinsk Test Site for long-term storage;
- from 1955 to the present, more than 52000 tons of IRS and more than 2800 tons of SRW have been accepted for long-term storage.
