Visit of a Delegation from the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy

From 9 to 10 April 2026, a delegation from the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), Republic of Korea, conducted a working visit to the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK).

During the visit, the delegation was provided with an overview of key elements of the NNC RK scientific and experimental infrastructure in the field of nuclear and fusion technologies. In particular, presentations were delivered on the capabilities of the Kazakhstan Materials Testing Tokamak, the plasma-beam installation, and the materials science complex dedicated to the development and investigation of materials for fusion applications.

A technical meeting was subsequently held to exchange views on potential areas of cooperation, including joint research in controlled thermonuclear fusion, as well as personnel training and capacity building. The discussions enabled the identification of priority areas for further collaboration. The parties expressed their intention to continue consultations and to elaborate potential joint activities at the working level.

The possibility of formalizing cooperation between NNC RK and KFE was also considered. In this regard, it was agreed that NNC RK will prepare and transmit to KFE a draft Memorandum of Cooperation for further review.
