Loading and Transportation of the First Batch of the IGR Fresh Highly Enriched Uranium Fuel (HEU-Fuel) to Reprocess for Further Down-Blending

In September 2019, in the IAE Branch at the CRR IGR, loading and transportation of the first batch of IGR fresh highly enriched uranium fuel (HEU-fuel) was carried out to reprocess for further down-blending. This activity was performed within Russian Research Reactor Fuel Return Program (RRRFR) implementation of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, US Department of Energy. The work included selection, weighting, and packaging of transported material, loading into special vehicle, transportation and escorting to target point. Transportation of the first batch of IGR fresh HEU-fuel was the first tangible step towards successful implementation of commitments made to the world community of the Republic of Kazakhstan to reduce risks of mass destruction weapons distribution and prevent unauthorized access to nuclear materials.
