Instructor Training Course 2019
Young specialists of the IAE Branch RSE NNC RK completed their training in the framework of International Reactor Technology Training Courses in Tokai, Japan.
The annual Instructor Training Course 2019 (ITC 2019) was held to prepare instructors to train in priority areas and topics in reactor technology. The training was carried out by experts, lecturers of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The specialists from several countries in Asia, including Bangladesh, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia took part in training courses. The Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by Igor A. Sokolov, Leading Engineer, Laboratory for Testing Materials under Fusion Reactor Conditions and Kumar A. Shіderbay, Engineer, Radioactive Materials Handling Service, CRR “Baikal-1”.
During the training courses, NNC’s young specialists were informed about challenges and solution methods when nuclear reactors designing, studied the nature behavior of nuclear plants’ fuel, reviewed nuclear power reactor safety systems in details. Igor Sokolov received theoretical and practical training in Thermohydraulics and Technologies of Structural and Fuel Materials. Kumar Shіderbay was trained in Physics of Nuclear Reactors.
While ITC 2019 courses, 15 excursion and technical tours were arranged, as well as 5 practical classes have been conducted directly by the course participants. The course participants visited Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPP – one of the largest Nuclear Power Plants in the World, the J-PARC Proton Accelerator Complex – a research complex for the needs of high-energy physics, hadron and neutrino physics and materials science, Reactor Fuel Examination Facility (JAEA) – one of the largest hot laboratories in Japan.
A training system simulating the start-up of a nuclear reactor was the most among practical exercises, where each participant of courses managed to prove himself in all positions of the reactor control group.
Participation in ITC 2019 training courses contributes to improve knowledge level of Kazakhstani specialists in reactor technologies who share them at subsequent Reactor Engineering training courses of the FTC (Follow-up Training Course “Reactor Engineering”), being implemented at the RSE NNC RK since 2015 in the framework of the Agreement between the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) for training personnel in the peaceful uses of atomic energy.
