Follow-up Training Course “Reactor Engineering-2020”
In the period from 16 to 18 November 2020 the National Nuclear Center conducted online Follow-up Training Course “Reactor Engineering” in Zoom. The FTC was organized as part of the Agreement on human resources development in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy between Al-Farabi National University, National Nuclear Center and Japanese Atomic Energy Agency.
This training course is one of the links in the training program for lecturers and instructors for Asian countries planning to create nuclear power. The program was established in 1996 by the Nuclear Industry Training Center under financial support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology of Japan for Asian countries planning to establish nuclear power to train lecturers and instructors. The main objectives of the program are to promote international cooperation, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of training for the nuclear industry and create a consistent and sustainable training system. The program includes the following areas: Reactor technologies, Radiation monitoring and Preparedness for nuclear and radiological accidents.
This year it is the sixth Follow-up Training Course “Reactor Engineering” since 2015 and 19 specialists took part in the training. Representatives of regional universities having agreements on cooperation in the field of personnel training have been invited to participate in the training course since 2018. In this regard, this year the FTC Reactor Engineering was attended by tutors of Shakarim State University, EKSTU named after S. Amanzholov and EKSTU named after D. Serikbayev.
This year the FTC was conducted online that distinguished it from previously organized courses. In agreement with Japanese coordinators, course program was revised excluding practical classes and technical tours, only lectures were kept. At the same time, the quality of the course was high. Lecturers were provided with individual facilities and equipment for presenting their lecture materials. All participants were joined at Zoom platform.
NNC specialists were involved as coordinators, instructors and lecturers of the FTC. Most coordinators and lecturers were previously trained in the JAEA instructor training program. The course program included lectures presented by the NNC and Dr. Hideo Harada, JAEA made a presentation Reactor Physics.
Dr. Hideo Harada, lecturer of the FTC, specialist of the Center for Nuclear Human Resources Development expressed his grattitude to the National Nuclear Center for ensuring the sustainable development of personnel training in nuclear industry, especially under restriction conditions due to the COVID-19. He also noted growing organizational quality of the FTC from year to year.
The course participants expressed special gratitude to the course lecturers and organizers for high level of the training course and the knowledge provided. Ms. Bektasova, Head of Physics Department, EKSU named after S. Amanzholov thanked organizers for the opportunity to gain unique knowledge in the field of reactor engineering. She noted high level of preparation of materials by lecturers and for comprehensive cover of the topics under consideration.
In the course of the FTC all participants showed sufficient level of knowledge and qualifications that was confirmed by the results of pre-tests and final tests as well as by very active involving in duscussions. At the end of the FTC Reactor Engineering participants were informed about awarding the Certificates of Completion which were forwarded them by the mail.
