The 18th Technical Meeting on EAGLE-3 Project

The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the 18th Technical Meeting attended by experts from the Japan Nuclear Energy Agency (JAEA) in terms of the joint Research Program EAGLE-3 between Kazakhstan and Japan.

The Program aim is to address issues in support of the safety of sodium-cooled fast neutron reactors.

The results of completed material studies of the solidified melt resulted from the FDCO-8 out-of-pile experiment and the ID-6 in-pile experiment have been discussed during the meeting. The purpose of the FDCO-8 experiment was to obtain data on the parameters of melt movement throughout a control rod guide tube with a modified sodium flow control device. The purpose of the ID-6 experiment was to study the corium cooling, which moved through the drain pipe to a section with a limited amount of coolant and located there under decay heat conditions.

In addition, the plans for post-experimental studies of the ID-7 experimental device were discussed at the meeting. Namely such issues as the cutting scheme of the main units and components and subsequent material studies have been considered.

Based on the results of the meeting, the JAEA highly appreciated the implemented work and the achieved results.
