Technical Visit of U.S. National Laboratory Specialists

From April 8 to 9, 2026, a technical visit by specialists from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) took place at the Institute of Atomic Energy branch of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As part of the visit, technical consultations were held and facilities of the Baikal-1 research reactor complex were toured.

During the joint work, the parties discussed the current operation of the IPOD modules, analyzed the data collected over the past period, and reviewed specific aspects of system operation. The specialists conducted an assessment of the demonstration module, during which issues related to its maintenance and optimization of operating parameters were addressed.

Following the meetings, a work schedule for the modernization of IPOD equipment for 2026 was agreed upon, and prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation and implementation of joint activities based on the infrastructure of the IAE RSE NNC RK were outlined.
