Technical meeting between JAEA, Marubeni Utility Service Ltd (MUS) and NNC RK
From 24 to 26 June 2025, the Technical meeting was held in Kurchatov between the specialists from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the Japanese company Marubeni Utility Service Ltd (MUS) and the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) under the International Contract Post-EAGLE-3. As part of the contract, the work is underway on a feasibility study of the possibility of conducting in-pile and out-of-pile studies to substantiate the design of the fourth-generation JSFR. After the feasibility study is completed, a decision will be made to continue the EAGLE-4 pilot program. JAEA team was represented by specialists who are customers of the work and supervisors of the research conducted at the experimental sites of NNC RK.
The main agenda of the Technical meeting was to determine the status of the feasibility study stages being carried out in accordance with the schedule of computational and theoretical studies, discuss the technical requirements and issues related to the design of in-pile and out-of-pile experimental devices, as well as the justification of their testing modes. Part of the meeting was devoted to discussing the deadlines for completing the stages of the feasibility study, the structure of the report and the materials to be presented in the feasibility study.
In general, the meeting was held at a high technical level, the partners from JAEA gave their positive assessments regarding effective discussions of a range of technical issues and confirmed their understanding of the problems associated with the tight deadlines for completing the work stages.
Following the meeting results, a Minutes was released, there the parties agreed on further actions and commitments.
