Technical meeting between experts from JAEA and NNC RK within the implementation of international contract post-EAGLE-3
From January 14 to 15, 2025, the second technical meeting between JAEA and NNC experts was held in Kurchatov as part of the implementation of the international contract post-EAGLE-3 which focuses on the feasibility study of the possibility of conducting in-pile and out-of-pile studies to substantiate the design of the fourth-generation JSFR. Based on the results of the feasibility study, a decision will be made regarding continuation of the experimental program, which may be called EAGLE-4. The JAEA team was represented by our long-standing friends in long-term cooperation, who are the customers of the work and curators of the research conducted at the NNC experimental sites. At the same time, colleagues from Japan, who are preparing technical requirements for in-pile experiments and experimental devices, participated in the meeting via videoconferencing. The main agenda of the meeting was to determine the status of the ongoing stages of work on the feasibility study for the possibility of conducting experimental studies, discuss technical requirements and issues related to the design of in-pile and out-of-pile experimental devices, as well as justification of their test modes. Part of the meeting was devoted to discussing the deadlines for completing the feasibility study, the structure of the report and the materials to be presented in the feasibility study.
Overall, the meeting was held at a high technical level, the JAEA partners gave their positive assessments regarding the effective discussions of a range of technical issues and confirmed their understanding of the issues associated with the tight deadlines for completing the work stages.
Following the meeting, a minute was issued, in which the parties agreed on further actions and obligations.
