Restart of the IVG.1M reactor for further use after conversion

On April 28, 2023, the Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the Certificate of the IVG.1M research reactor loaded with new low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel. The obtaining of relevant approvals was preceded by a large amount of successfully completed work, which began back in 2010. The specialists of the National Nuclear Center in a joint foreign partnership completed a feasibility study of the reactor operation with a new core, manufacture and testing of experimental fuel, manufacture, transportation and incoming inspection of standard LEU-fuel, physical and energy start-ups of the reactor. To date, the IVG.1M reactor is ready to continue experiments and resume research work as part of budgetary and commercial programs in peaceful uses of atom, in which leading international organizations are interested.
