Regular Meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of IAEA Safeguards in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On April 13–14, a regular meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards in the Republic of Kazakhstan (SIRG 2026) was held in Astana. During the meeting, updated information was presented by Committee of Atomic Supervision and Control on Kazakhstan’s activities in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle, as well as on ongoing measures and plans at former nuclear test sites.

Issues related to nuclear material accounting and control were discussed, including those concerning the downblending and immobilization of highly enriched uranium (HEU) fuel from the IGR and IVG.1M research reactors.

Following the meeting, key actions for 2026 were identified, and the next meeting is scheduled for October 2026.
