Expanding the Boundaries of Scientific and Technical Cooperation

As a part of Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement between NAC Kazatomprom JSC and RSE “National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan” between 7 and 8 of December this year, a visit of experts from Scientific Center of the Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC, Manarbek K. Kylyshkanov, Head of the Center, Michail A. Podoinikov,  Deputy Head, Yevgeny V. Kirillov, Head of the Uranium Laboratory and Sergey V. Udartsev, Head of the Beryllium Laboratory took place.  

The purpose of the visit was to discuss promising topics of joint research for 2022-2024 and to familiarize with the existing park of experimental and analytical equipment of the RSE NNC RK. During the visit, UMP’s experts attended scientific laboratories engaged in experimental research of structural materials of nuclear and thermonuclear equipment of the Complex of Research Reactors “Baikal-1”, the Materials Testing Tokamak KTM and the Semipalatinsk Test Site Museum.

At the Round Table, representatives of the Scientific Center and the Institute of Atomic Energy discussed research activities with overall thrust of the enterprises: new fuel sample research and testing, LEU fuel technology development for the IGR research reactor, purification technology development of beryllium irradiated in nuclear power facilities, experimental studies to find how critical thermal loads and plasma-beam affect the facing material of the ITER first wall.

In conclusion, the experts expressed their concern in consulting technical meetings to discuss such issues as joint project development for commercialization, participation in international projects, obtaining grants and earmarked funding of the program.
