Conduction of the IGR research reactor startup
On the 22nd of October, the IGR research reactor startup was successfully carried out. Specified energy release (5.2 GJ) was fully realized in the reactor core followed by its heating up to 1000°С. This is the first full-scale startup after updating and preventive inspection of technological reactor systems implemented in 2018. These included procurement and installation of new neutron source, new control and protection tools, new pumps for experimental loop that contributed to nuclear and radiation safety and provided reliable cooldown of the reactor experimental channels.
Experimental data obtained in the course of the startup are quite important to verification of computational methodologies and programs being designed and currently applied by IAE and key to the implementation of planning reactor experiments under international contractual obligations.
