Completion of Test Program of Two Experimental WCTCs-LEU
As part of international initiatives on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Republic of Kazakhstan, conversion of research reactors to low-enriched fuel is being carried out. In order to implement the conversion of the IVG.1M reactor, the FSUE SRI SPA “LUCH” (Russia) manufactured experimental water-cooled technological channels with low-enriched fuel (WCTC-LEU).
On 29 October 2019, the test program of two experimental WCTCs-LEU as a part of IVG.1M reactor was completed. Total energy release of the IVG.1M reactor was 1080.1 MW∙hour.
Currently, the work to remove two pilot WCTCs-LEU from the IVG.1M reactor has started for further material testing.
