Technical meeting between the specialists from JAEA, MUS and NNC under post-EAGLE-3 International contract

In the period from January 26 to January 28, 2026, the sixth technical meeting was held in Kurchatov between the specialists from JAEA, MUS and NNC under post-EAGLE-3 International contract, under which the work is being carried out on a feasibility study of the possibility of conducting in-pile and out-of-pile studies to substantiate the fourth-generation JSFR design. The main agenda of the technical meeting was determining the status of the feasibility study stages being carried out in accordance with the calendar plan, discussing the results related to the design of the in-pile and out-of-pile experimental devices, as well as the computational (neutronic and thermophysics) justification of the test modes at the IGR reactor. Most of the time was devoted to discussing the terms of the preparation and approval of a new contract draft for EAGLE-4 pilot program. The conditions, possible problems and difficulties that may arise during the experimental work affecting the terms of their implementation were discussed.

The JAEA team included the specialists, who are the work customers and research curators, the employees of the planning, economic and financial departments of NNC and JAEA took part in the meeting via videoconference.

In general, the meeting was held at a high technical level, and the partners from JAEA positively assessed the effective discussions on a range of technical issues and contractual obligations. The parties confirmed their understanding of the problems related to the contract fulfillment, deadlines and strict conditions for the experiment schedule implementation.

Following the meeting, the minutes were released, where the parties agreed on further actions and responsibilities. The delivery of the Feasibility Study Report and its materials to the Customer will take place by February 5, 2026. The next technical meeting will be held in June 2026, at which it is planned to sign the contract for EAGLE-4 research program.
