Materials for future reactors tested in Kazakhstan

At the RSE “National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (NNC RK), specialists are researching advanced materials for next generation reactors. Yerzhan Sapatayev, Head of the Radiation Materials Science Laboratory at the “Institute of Atomic Energy” Branch of the RSE NNC RK, discussed the testing of materials under high temperatures, neutron irradiation, and accident loads in an interview with the BAQ.KZ news agency.

These studies make it possible to evaluate the reliability and durability of materials developed for modern nuclear and thermonuclear energy. A complete testing cycle for a new structural material can take up to 10-15 years.
