NNC RK and Chinese partners discussed future cooperation opportunities in the field of nuclear technologies

In the period from May 18 to May 20, 2026, a regular technical meeting was held in Kurchatov between CIAE (PRC) and NNC RK specialists. The meeting was devoted to discussing the possibility of conducting experiments on irradiation of fuel rods with promising uranium-nitride and uranium-molybdenum fuels at the IVG.1M research reactor. The CIAE team included the managers and technical specialists in the field of testing nuclear fuel from power reactors.

During the meeting, CIAE colleagues proposed technical requirements for testing promising fuels, and NNC RK specialists presented the main results of neutronic calculations that facilitated the determination of the technical conditions for the in-pile irradiation experiments to achieve the necessary burnout in the fuel under study. The parties discussed the issues related to the conditions of the experiments, the timing and procedures of the fuel cross-border transportation before and after the experiments.

In general, the meeting was held at a high technical level, following which the CIAE partners expressed the interest in joint experimental work at the NNC RK research facilities and positively assessed effective discussions of the issues of mutual interest. The parties agreed on further cooperation in the field of research on the behavior of promising fuels.
