NNC RK Hosts Meeting with the New President of Marubeni Utility Services Ltd.
On June 3, 2026, a meeting was held in Almaty between Professor Erlan Batyrbekov, Director General of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK), and Mr. Makino, the newly appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marubeni Utility Services Ltd (MUS).
The partnership between NNC RK and Marubeni Utility Services has a long history dating back to the 1990s, when cooperation began through the COTELS and IVR-AM projects. In subsequent years, collaboration expanded through the CORMIT and Fukushima Debris projects, aimed at addressing scientific and technical challenges and strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstani and Japanese specialists.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the role of MUS as a reliable partner providing support in the implementation of joint initiatives and in addressing complex organizational and technical challenges within the framework of international research programs.
The parties also highlighted the achievements of the Post-EAGLE-3 project implemented at NNC RK. As part of the project, a feasibility study was prepared for conducting in-pile and out-of-pile experiments aimed at supporting the safety assessment of an advanced Japanese fast reactor. The results obtained confirmed the strong potential of NNC RK’s research infrastructure and established a solid foundation for further cooperation.
The parties also discussed the prospects for the EAGLE-4 project. Particular note was made of MUS’ readiness to assist in the procurement and supply of equipment and materials, which will contribute to the successful implementation of the project and the further expansion of scientific and technical cooperation.
The results of the joint efforts are expected to contribute to the advancement of nuclear safety research and to strengthen international cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
